Evan Devore was sworn in as a district chief for the New Port Richey Fire Department during the council meeting. Chief Fitch said Devore, a department member since 2015, ranked first on a promotional performance assessment that included a written exam, tactical scenario, and panel interview scored by outside fire chiefs; Devore recited the oath of office administered by the city clerk and was congratulated by council and staff.
The council then recognized two lifesaving responses. Police officials presented Officer Nick Campana with the life-saving award and citizen Melissa Hagerman with a citizen award for pulling a child from a pool and performing CPR on 05/18/2025. The police chief told the council the quick actions directly saved the child and invited city leadership and staff for photos.
The brief ceremonial items concluded with the council moving on to the business portion of the agenda.
