Mount Arlington council introduces ordinance to regulate low-speed electric bicycles and scooters

The Mount Arlington Borough Council introduced Ordinance 08-2025 on Nov. 5, which would amend Chapter 169 of the borough code to regulate low-speed electric bicycles, low-speed electric scooters, motorized bicycles and motorized scooters within the borough. The ordinance was moved by Councilman Rockie Fuller and seconded by Council President Delaney and was introduced on a unanimous vote of members present.
Council members publicly thanked the police department for drafting the ordinance language and said the change is intended to enhance safety for children and other residents. Councilman Andrew Cangiano, earlier in the meeting, credited the department for its work on the policy. The transcript records no substantive debate on the ordinance at introduction; it will return for further hearings and final adoption according to municipal procedure.
The council also received routine police and fire reports during the meeting describing recent trainings, community outreach and mutual-aid incidents.
