Superintendent briefs board on Safe Routes study; C4 Wrestling asks district to explore adding wrestling

At the Sept. 11 meeting Superintendent Kevin Cooper presented the board with findings from a Safe Routes to School study completed with assistance from KDOT and Kansas State University. Cooper said the study identifies safety-related issues and suggested next steps; he also reported the district is awaiting additional bids for a concession stand/restroom project and that Incite Designs will perform a facilities review to identify districtwide needs.
Cody Garvin and Barry Albious, representing C4 Wrestling Academy, asked the board to consider adding middle-school and high-school wrestling programs. The board did not take immediate action but agreed to look into the request and discuss it at a future meeting.
District administrators gave brief reports: Justin Wilson outlined completed transportation and building maintenance projects; Adam Thomasson highlighted elementary events and training (Day of Service, LETRS, DARE, an upcoming book fair, family night and grandparents' day); and Zach Martin reported on middle-school athletics and reminded the board that midterm grades are due Sept. 12.
No formal action was taken on the Safe Routes study, concession bids or the wrestling request during the meeting; the board approved procurement and personnel actions elsewhere on the agenda and scheduled follow up for facilities and program requests.
