Riverton school board votes to exceed revenue neutral rate, adopts 2025–26 budget

The Unified School District #404 Board of Education voted Sept. 11 to adopt a levy exceeding the calculated revenue neutral rate for fiscal year 2026 and to approve the district's 2025'26 budget. The board conducted the required revenue neutral rate hearing and, after no public comments were offered, approved Resolution 09112025 to exceed the revenue neutral rate as authorized by K.S.A. 79-2988.
Kyle Anderson moved to approve Resolution 09112025; Matt Darnaby seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Cyle Haywood, yes; Kyle Anderson, yes; Gary Neal, yes; Keeley Adams, yes; Matt Darnaby, yes; Judy Adams, yes; Jennifer Edwards, absent. The motion carried and the resolution was adopted, authorizing a levy above the calculated revenue neutral tax rate.
At 6:30 p.m., the board held the legally required budget hearing for the 2025'26 budget. There were no questions or concerns from the public. Kyle Anderson moved to adopt Local Option Budget Resolution 09112025(2); Jennifer Edwards seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Matt Darnaby then moved to adopt the 2025'26 budget, which the board said was prepared using previously approved building-level needs assessments and assessment reviews; Keeley Adams seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
