Bedford County commissioners approve notaries, budget amendments and legal response; deny nonprofit appropriation

The Bedford County Board of Commissioners approved a series of routine and committee-recommended items during its June 9, 2026 meeting.
Commissioner Greg Vick moved to elect a slate of notaries recommended by the Rules & Legislative Committee; Sylvia Pinson seconded and the motion passed unanimously by voice vote. The county clerk recorded the elected notaries and the list is on file in the clerk’s office.
The Financial Management Committee’s recommendations included approval of Board of Education Budget Amendment No.4 (motion by Janice Brothers, second by Linda Yockey) and County Budget Amendment No.4 (motion by Linda Yockey, second by Janice Brothers); both motions passed unanimously by voice vote. A separate solid-waste item to declare listed equipment as scrap was approved on unanimous voice vote after a motion by Mark Thomas and second by Sylvia Pinson.
The commission approved a proclamation to mark the county’s 250th Celebration and a time capsule ceremony (moved by Anita Epperson and seconded by Sylvia Pinson). Commissioner Linda Yockey moved to deny Resolution No. 26-18, which would have made appropriations to two nonprofit charitable organizations; Anita Epperson seconded and the denial passed unanimously because, as Yockey said, the application deadline had passed and budget hearings were complete.
In other business, the commission unanimously approved, after suspending the rules, a motion to accept the advice of county attorney Bill Reider regarding the county’s response to a specific lawsuit. The commission scheduled related budget committee work and a special-called meeting for late June.
