Oregon School District board approves preliminary 2026–27 budget and expands open-enrollment seats

The Oregon School District Board on June 8 approved a preliminary 2026–27 budget and voted to add 12 open-enrollment spaces across grade levels; votes were unanimous among members present. The budget was presented by Mr. Andy Weiland and the open-enrollment changes were presented by Ms. Jina Jonen.
The Oregon School District Board unanimously approved a preliminary budget for the 2026–27 school year at its June 8 meeting. Heather Garrison moved and Dr. Caleb Bush seconded the motion to adopt the budget as presented by Mr. Andy Weiland; a roll-call vote recorded Garrison, Bush, Hensal, Ledbetter, Wright and Pankratz as voting yes.
The board also approved additional open-enrollment spaces as listed in Table 2 of the agenda. Nathan Hensal moved and Matt Ledbetter seconded the motion, presented by Ms. Jina Jonen. The board approved the following additional seats: 4 in Kindergarten; 3 in 4th grade; 3 in 7th grade; and 2 in 8th grade. The motion carried on a unanimous roll-call vote of members present.
The minutes record the preliminary budget was approved "as presented"; the document on file with the district (presented by Mr. Weiland) provides the detail behind the proposal. Because the board approved the preliminary budget by roll-call, it will proceed through the district’s normal adoption process before final certification and tax levy steps later in the budget calendar.
No public comment was recorded on the budget or enrollment items at the meeting.
The board’s actions were taken during the public portion of the meeting before a recess to a work session later in the evening.
