Redevelopment Commission passes multiple resolutions on appraisals, property transfers and budget amendments

The Gary Redevelopment Commission used its July 22 meeting to approve several resolutions covering appraisal contracts, property transfers, emergency repairs and budget adjustments.
Resolution 7724 authorized awards for appraisal services to Bail Appraisals, Valuation Services and Nelson Appraisals to cover appraisals through Dec. 31, 2026 and to reconcile past-due invoices; staff described a combined adjustment for the three appraisal vendors totaling about $60,425. Commissioners moved and passed the resolution by roll call.
The commission accepted donations of five parcels (resolution 7726) for downtown and Glen Park redevelopment — staff identified the parcels by address (48937 Maryland Street; 372527 Tennessee Street; 372941 Tennessee Street; 308 Madison Street; 1143 Delaware Street) — and approved the transfer by roll call.
Resolution 7728 clarified an award related to the Hudson Campbell roof and authorized emergency roof repairs not to exceed $6,800 with Gorillas Roof. Resolution 7729 moved internal funds from capital improvement to professional services to cover appraisal payments; the correct transfer amount was discussed and finalized in the meeting record.
The commission also considered resolution 7727, a budget amendment allocating funds for several TIP projects (staff cited Truck City TIP $406,185.31; Madison Avenue and Kirkyard figures were discussed in the meeting and staff presented a corrected combined total of $1,766,185.31 when the item was brought back off the table and voted on). The motion to bring 7727 off the table and pass it with corrections passed by roll call.
Finally, resolution 7730 authorized the adjacent-property program awards: petitioners including Tawanda Murray (525 Jackson Street), Anjanette Carson (owner of a longtime family property) and Bernard Johnson (308 Dallas Street) were recognized and awards were made; one petitioner, Melanie Walls, was deferred to the next meeting because she was not present.
All resolutions described above were moved, seconded and approved in roll-call votes during the meeting; staff said the formal minutes will record the exact dollar amounts and contract language.
