Director Harris introduced resolution 7725 to award the property and noted an offer received that was below the advertised $18,000 bid. The chair entertained a motion to table the resolution for further review.
A woman identified by the chair as Miss Bell addressed the commission and asked members to consider a prior proposal she had submitted. Bell said she had been paying taxes on the building next to the lot (the Perry Shaw Historic Building at 717 Washington Street), had maintained the adjacent lot when possible and wanted the parcel for parking to support redevelopment of her building. Staff noted the parcel appraisal of $18,000 and said the commission typically follows a 30-day waiting period when an offer is below the advertised bid.
The commission agreed to look into the matter and to revisit the item at a subsequent meeting; the motion to table was carried.
