The USD 217 Board of Education on Aug. 12 scheduled the district’s Budget Adoption Hearing for 6:25 p.m. and its RNR Adoption Hearing for 6:20 p.m. on Sept. 9, 2024, and approved an insurance renewal with KICS at the district’s regular meeting in the Hays Educational Center.
Superintendent/Principal Dettra Crawford presented administrative reports; during new business the board adopted the hearing dates after a motion by Courtney Reza and a second by Reyna Delgado. Phoebe Brummett was appointed as the district’s voting delegate for the Kansas Association of School Boards convention Nov. 15–17, 2024.
The minutes record proposed insurance figures for the renewal: 2023–24 EMC rates of $159,449 and proposed 2024–25 EMC rates of $199,311.25, which the minutes describe as a 25% increase. The minutes also list proposed deductibles (including a $75,000 per-house deductible) and other line items for worker’s compensation, auto, general liability and cyber coverages. The board moved to renew insurance with KICS and the motion carried 6-0.
The minutes do not record detailed discussion of alternative insurance options or a vendor comparison; they record only the proposed rates and the motion to renew. The board also reviewed calendar items, other reports and routine business and adjourned the meeting.
