The USD 217 Board of Education on May 12 approved several personnel and administrative actions, including accepting staff departures, hiring a new teacher, authorizing summer help positions and declaring district property surplus.
In open session the board accepted Ashlie Hubers’ resignation “with appreciation for her service,” and accepted the retirement of Patti Warren with appreciation and well wishes; both motions were moved by Jason LaRue and seconded by Phoebe Brummett, with votes recorded as carried 6-0. The board also approved hiring Joseph Inman as a high school history teacher, sophomore sponsor and track coach; the motion passed 6-0.
Jason LaRue moved to open four summer-help positions at $12.00 per hour and authorized Superintendent Dettra Crawford to make the hires; the motion carried 6-0. The board declared an old carport at 600 Madison, an old metal building from the track area and a small metal shed behind 205 E. 3rd as surplus and approved their destruction. The board also declared 66 Chromebooks surplus and authorized selling them at fair market value.
Courtney Reza moved, and Jason LaRue seconded, that all staff Surface devices be turned in; staff may purchase their devices and those not purchased will be wiped and may be sold to the public. The board approved purchasing EZ School Online (described at the meeting as a Harris product) for online enrollment.
On payroll timing, the board moved that May payroll be processed per the negotiated agreement so that all staff are paid on the last day they work in May; classified staff were included in the directive. Daniel Dunn seconded the payroll motion; it carried 6-0. The meeting concluded with routine announcements and adjournment at 10:10 p.m.
The board recorded several administrative items—Superintendent Crawford noted a state transportation audit for Rolla, upcoming in-service/insurance dates and that an EMC insurance claim was complete and payment would follow. Preschool enrollment was reported tentatively at 11 students, which would require two adults; administrators said kindergarten would also need two adults and that a paraprofessional would likely be added with those counts.
