USD 217 board adopts 2025–26 calendar, approves summer food program, auditor and carpet bids

At its April 22 meeting the USD 217 Board of Education approved several operational decisions affecting next school year and district facilities.
By motion the board approved the Summer Food grab‑and‑go program for 2025, continuing the model used the prior year. After a board survey showing 10 votes for calendar option A and 7 for option B, the board adopted calendar choice A for the 2025–26 school year (which includes Thanksgiving week off). Nick Link moved to adopt schedule A; Phoebe Brummett seconded and the motion passed 4‑0.
The board reviewed auditor bids requested at the April meeting. Bids were recorded from Hay & Rice ($10,675) and Medill & Thooft of Ulysses ($11,500). Daniel Dunn moved to accept the Medill & Thooft bid; Nick Link seconded and the motion carried 4‑0.
On facilities maintenance the board accepted a bid from Carpet For Less of Cimarron, Kansas for $16,270.58 to replace carpet in the Jr./Sr. High School; the motion passed 4‑0. Several other facility items — ash tree spraying bids and two carport bids for 600 Madison — were tabled until May. The board also asked Administration to bring a proposal on track concessions and summer projects to the next meeting.
Other operational notes recorded in the minutes: a proposed sale or public offering of one used Microsoft Surface device (employees had first opportunity), discussion about messaging and software platforms (GoEdustar, Etrition, AAWeb) and adjustments to the 1,116 vs. 1,086 hour calendar calculations per auditor guidance.
