The Irondequoit Town Board on July 21 adopted a local law amending chapter 175 of the town code to streamline administration of the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL).
Peter explained the changes, saying the code amendments designate a single records-access officer (the town clerk) and modify the appeals process so that appeals go to the supervisor rather than to the full town board. He said the prior appeals path was impractical given FOIL timelines and that the change is intended to expedite responses.
The board opened a public hearing, heard the explanation, recorded no questions or public objections, and subsequently adopted the resolution (PH2026-4) approving the local-law amendments.
The local law clarifies administrative roles and should shorten appeal timelines; implementation will require the clerk's office to serve as the records-access point and the supervisor to handle appeals under the new procedure.
