The Irondequoit Town Board on July 21 approved a 15-year renewal of the town's cable television franchise agreement with Spectrum (Charter Communications), preserving the existing 5% franchise fee. The board opened and closed a required public hearing before voting to authorize execution of the renewed agreement.
Lauren Kelly, director of government affairs for Charter Communications, told the board the renewal is required by the New York Public Service Commission and that the proposed agreement is substantially the same as the current franchise. "The franchise fee is 5%. It's the same," she said, adding the contract allows Spectrum to perform maintenance and upgrades in the town's rights of way.
Board members asked no substantive questions during the hearing; no members of the public rose to speak on the issue. After the public hearing closed, the board moved, seconded and carried a resolution (PH2026-1) approving the renewal and authorizing related actions.
The decision authorizes the supervisor to execute the agreement; the board did not change the fee level or add new substantive conditions during the meeting. The franchise renewal will remain in effect for the 15-year term described by Charter, subject to any subsequent compliance or regulatory steps required by state authorities.
The town clerk will include the action in the minutes and follow up on execution details and any required filings with state regulators.
