The City of Bowdle on Jan. 6 approved a slate of city vendor payments that included a $247,474.65 invoice to Dahme Construction for the Main Street Project and a $34,407.85 consulting fee to IMEG for sewer consulting/Main Street Project work, according to the minutes. The council’s approval of city payment-of-claims was recorded without dissent.
Council members discussed the Quonset building land lease and, referencing the city attorney’s recommendation, agreed to pursue renegotiation of lease terms with the two current lessees; the minutes record the attorney’s recommendation but no formal motion or outcome is recorded for the lease discussion.
The council also directed publication of the notice of vacancy for the 2025 City Council election. The minutes state all positions are up for election — mayor and six aldermen at large — with the mayor serving a two-year term; three aldermen will be two-year terms and three will be one-year terms to stagger terms. Declaration of Candidacy circulation may begin Jan. 31, 2025, petitions are due by 5 p.m. on Feb. 28, 2025, and, if required, the election will be held April 8, 2025. Margaret Bobby moved for the terms and Rex Gab seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
The minutes also note routine items including acceptance of Library minutes, review of monthly receipts and expenses, notice of SDML Government Day on Feb. 5, 2025, and scheduling of the next regular council meeting for Feb. 3, 2025.
