The Long Branch City Council on July 22 adopted an ordinance that amends the municipal code to require all rentals of one‑ to four‑family dwellings to be for a minimum of 60 days. The measure was approved on second and final reading after a short public hearing and a roll‑call vote.
Supporters and staff framed the ordinance as a response to short‑term listings that appear on multiple online platforms. During the hearing, resident Sharon Wise asked who will enforce the rule and how short listings will be stopped from appearing on sites such as MLS and realtor.com. A staff member said enforcement will fall to code enforcement and that the administration can notify listing platforms about the city’s rule so properties will not be posted for shorter periods.
The ordinance was introduced at the July 8 meeting and the council opened a focused public hearing on July 22. No amendments were offered at the hearing; after the close of public comment the council voted to adopt the ordinance on second and final reading. The clerk announced the motion passed by roll call.
Council aides and staff did not provide an effective‑on date in the meeting record; the presiding official said the ordinance would be advertised according to law. Fiscal or fine schedules tied to enforcement were not specified in the hearing record.
