Council opens lone bid for Red Eye Tavern sale, approves Tower Days alcohol permits and open containers

The council considered several event- and property-related items at its May 5 meeting.
Mayor Rick Boschee opened the only bid for the Red Eye Tavern from Ernest Stahl. The proposed purchase price was $117,000 with a down payment of $11,700. The council negotiated contract-for-deed financing terms of 0% interest for the first two years and 4.25% for the remaining 13 years, with the contract set to begin June 1, 2025.
The council also approved plans for Tower Days on June 27–28, 2025. It granted the Fire Department a special alcohol permit for the Bull-O-Rama event on June 27; authorized special event permits allowing Oldies Grill & Lounge and The Red Eye Tavern to serve alcohol in the park during Tower Days; and voted to allow open containers citywide during those two event days. All motions were approved unanimously.
The council approved malt beverage license renewals for Bowdle Pit Stop (RB-2796) and Bird Down Lodge (RB-24573) and a new application; the motion was made by Mike Gunderson and passed unanimously.
The meeting minutes record the bid terms and permit approvals; no contested motions or public objections were recorded in the minutes.
