Salina Accessibility Advisory Board approves 2025 annual report, plans October seminar

The Salina Accessibility Advisory Board voted to approve its 2025 annual report and directed staff to submit the document to the City Commission.

Michelle Martin, the city liaison for the board, summarized the report at the meeting, saying, "This is a report we have to fill out for the city commissioner" and listing accomplishments that included a half-day accessibility seminar on Oct. 16, 2025, participation at the 2025 Fair Housing Seminar with a booth to raise awareness of the board’s role, updated resource materials, and input to Parks and Recreation on planned park improvements.

The board’s goals for the coming year — read aloud by Martin and included in the approved report — call for hosting a repeat accessibility seminar in October 2026, developing internal and external training materials on accessibility law, continuing to provide input to the city’s ADA coordinator on a refreshed ADA transition plan, and updating the board’s resource list.

Commissioner Jamie Pedego moved to accept the annual report; the motion was seconded and approved after an aye vote. Martin told the board she would submit the approved report to the City Commission.

The report also recapped the 2025 seminar: staff said it was held at OCCK’s training facility, featured a service-dog demonstration by KSDS and a panel, and drew positive feedback from attendees. "Everyone that turned out a feedback form... was pleased with the seminar," Martin said.

Board members acknowledged the seminar’s usefulness and expressed support for continuing the event and associated outreach. The board did not set a firm date beyond aiming for October 2026 and agreed staff and the vice chair would work on scheduling and speaker outreach before the next meeting.

The board completed its remaining liaison reports and adjourned after the vote.
