Council opens sealed bids for Bowdle airport land; highest bids documented

Bowdle — At its Dec. 2 meeting the Bowdle City Council opened sealed bids for airport land leases and documented the results for further action.
Mayor Rick Boschee said South Dakota State University holds an easement on the property for a weather station. The council opened sealed bids for approximately 36 acres of grassland and about 180.5 acres of cropland. The highest grassland bid recorded was from Charles Belcher for $1,510.00 per parcel; the high cropland bid was Josh Heinrich at $130.50 per acre. Finance Officer Carrie Poirier documented all bids and was directed to work with Vaughn Beck to finalize lease paperwork. The council said it would offer the highest bidders one more bidding opportunity before finalizing leases.
No award or final lease approval was recorded on the floor at the meeting; the finance officer will follow up with bidders and return with finalized lease documents for signatures.
