Bowdle — The Bowdle City Council reviewed October financial statements for the Bowdle Healthcare Center and approved personnel and compensation actions at its Dec. 2, 2024 meeting.
Healthcare CFO Brooke Heilman presented the October financials, reporting a facility-wide profit of $245,835 for the month and a year-to-date (YTD) loss of $(28,502). Heilman broke the figures down by department: the hospital showed a monthly profit of $254,345 (YTD profit $41,532); the nursing home had a monthly loss of $(4,276) (YTD loss $(38,714)); and the clinic showed a monthly loss of $(4,234) (YTD loss $(31,320)). Administrator Kirby Kleffman noted October statistical reports were broadly similar to the prior month, with an increase in radiology services.
The council approved the personnel changes Kleffman presented for November — which included separations (Mindy Henderson, long-term care registered nurse; Teresa Thomas, ambulance EMT) and a wage increase for Chelsea Vogel — on a motion by Margaret Bobby and second by Darryn Barnhardt; the motion passed unanimously.
During an executive session that began at 7:12 p.m., the council approved a contract renewal for Travis Preszler (contract option 3) on a motion by Bobby, seconded by Barnhardt; the motion carried with all voting yes. The council also approved holiday bonuses for healthcare center staff on a motion by Barnhardt, seconded by Amber Shaykett; Mike Gunderson abstained and the remaining members voted yes, so the motion carried.
The council reviewed payroll and an itemized list of the healthcare center’s November claims, including pharmacy, radiology and service-contract expenses, and approved payment of those claims on a motion by Bobby and second by Barnhardt. Finance Officer Carrie Poirier documented the payroll and claims items for the record.
What happens next: The finance officer will work with healthcare leadership to continue monitoring month-to-month variances and to process the authorized contract and bonus payments.
