The City Council approved multiple liquor license renewals and reviewed routine city financial reports at its Nov. 4 meeting. Council Member Darryn Barnhardt moved to approve renewals for Bowdle American Legion (retail on-sale), Red Eye (package off-sale and retail on-sale), Bird Down Lodge/Shot Gun Bar and Grill (retail on-sale), The Watering Can (wine & cider on/off sale) and Oldies Grill & Lounge (retail on-sale and transfer package off sale); Amber Shaykett seconded the motion and all present voted yes.
Finance Officer Carrie Poirier presented October receipts, payroll and a detailed payment-of-claims list for city operations. The claims included a Dahme Construction draw of $177,710.70 for the Main Street project and other vendor payments; the council reviewed and approved the payments as recorded in the minutes.
Mayor Rick Boschee reported the city has not yet received an inspector's response about reverting the airport to public use and said there is a question whether Agtegra bins on or near airport property are too high for public-use status. The council authorized placing advertisements in The Bowdle Pride to lease the cropland and grassland for 2025 on a three-year term with a three-year renewal option; bids will be opened at the Dec. 2, 2024 meeting.
The council discussed moving funds from Raymond James to SD Fit but tabled the matter pending additional information. The city, BEDC and HRC property insurance policies were moved to the SDPAA and final paperwork was completed; liability insurance for the BEDC and HRC remains with CorInsurance.
The council set its next regular meeting for Dec. 2, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. and adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
