Bowdle Healthcare Center reports $127,464 year-to-date loss; council approves staffing changes and claims

Kirby Kleffman, Healthcare Administrator, told the Bowdle City Council on Oct. 7 that the municipally operated Healthcare Center posted a facility-wide loss of $117,615 for August and a year-to-date loss of $127,464.
Kleffman broke the totals into components: a hospital monthly loss of $75,983 (YTD $95,613), a nursing-home loss of $27,611 (YTD loss $19,506) and a clinic loss of $14,022 (YTD loss $12,345). "It's been a slow month overall," Kleffman said while presenting the August financial statements and the facility's August statistical report.
The council approved recommended personnel changes for September, accepting the hires of Taylor McElhone (LTC activities, full time at $21.00/hr) and Linda Weldon (LTC LPN, full time at $30.20/hr), and recorded several separations that were listed in the administrator's report. Mike Gunderson moved to accept the personnel changes; Rex Gab seconded the motion and all members voted yes.
The council also approved an education-assistance request from Savannah Sowards (motion by Margaret Bobby; second by Darryn Barnhardt) and voted to approve the Healthcare Center payment of claims for September after reviewing a detailed accounts list presented by Kleffman.
The meeting minutes do not record any additional analysis or specific corrective measures tied to the financial losses beyond regular review and approval of claims. The council did not vote on any structural change to the Healthcare Center budget at this meeting.
