Bowdle council authorizes advertising for sanitary sewer bids and discusses water‑loop options

Ken Hier of IMEG Engineering asked the council to authorize advertising for Sanitary Sewer Improvements as soon as the Department of Environment (DANR) approves the project; the council approved the request, with advertising anticipated later in August, a bid opening in September and bid award consideration scheduled for the Oct. 7, 2024 meeting (motion by Margaret Bobby; second by Russ Maier; unanimous).
Rodney Schlecht, streets supervisor, raised several water‑infrastructure issues. A homeowner asked that no surface water access be provided to an empty Main Street lot; the council agreed with the engineer’s recommendation to place water infrastructure and bury connections so future access could be requested without immediate service to the lot. Schlecht also reported a leaking hydrant by the ball diamond; the council agreed to install a spigot on the pavilion exterior instead of immediate hydrant repair.
Schlecht noted there is currently no water loop between 5th Street and 6th Avenue. IMEG recommended the council work with Dahme Construction to obtain an initial bid to estimate costs for adding a water loop; the minutes record the council’s intent to pursue an initial bid. Later in the meeting the council approved a pay request for Dahme Construction as reported by NECOG (motion by Margaret Bobby; second by Darryn Barnhardt; unanimous).
The authorized advertising step begins the public bidding timeline: the minutes record the council’s expectation that advertising would start after DANR approval, with a bid opening in September and council consideration of bids in October. The finance officer and city engineer will continue to coordinate bid documents and scheduling.
