The Santa Fe Trail USD board approved two technology procurements after hearing a presentation from district staff about aging staff devices and performance issues with interactive classroom displays.
District staff said the technology director has requested authorization to purchase a domain‑controller service quoted at just over $21,000 and to proceed with a staff‑hardware refresh budget not to exceed approximately $128,000. The technology director recommended a phased refresh and a three‑year rotation goal to avoid a single‑year spike in replacement costs; staff said vendors proposed replacing roughly 75 devices this year and about 50 the following year as part of a rolling plan.
A board member moved to approve the Dell Technologies service quote and a second motion authorized the administrator to proceed with the presented staff‑hardware proposal up to the stated budget ceiling. The board questioned device counts, refresh cycles and possible grant funding for parts of the program; staff said prior grants lowered the student‑device cost, but staff device purchases would likely not be grant‑eligible and would need to be covered in the operating budget.
Both motions were seconded and called; the Chair recorded 'All in favor' and the board approved the service and the not‑to‑exceed hardware budget. The technology director will obtain a second bid and manage purchases within the authorized budget.
