Health department staff preview agreement for free state TB medication and storage rules

Gina James of Health and Human Services told commissioners an interlocal agreement with the state Department of Health will be on the agenda to allow the county to receive TB medication at no cost when the state supplies medication for active tuberculosis cases.
"This is, there's no money being exchanged. It's for access to TB medication," James said, adding that the agreement establishes how the county must store the drugs, keep inventory and handle distribution for patients whose insurance does not cover the medication.
James said the program is intended to fill gaps where insurance coverage fails and noted the county must meet storage and inventory standards specified by the state in order to accept the medication. No fiscal commitment by the county was described in the briefing.
The interlocal agreement will be presented at the scheduled public meeting for board consideration.
