Britton-Hecla board adopts multiple policy changes, rescinds opioid-prevention policy

The Britton-Hecla School District 45-4 Board of Education approved multiple policy revisions during its Oct. 15 regular meeting, adopting second-reading changes and taking final action on several items the board identified for review.
The board accepted revisions to Business Office Hours (Policy 3021), adding the phrase “every school day” to the first sentence. It voted to rescind Policy 3051, Opioid Overdose Prevention, and accepted a spelling correction to Policy 3054, Law Enforcement Unit. The board also approved an increase to the dollar threshold in Policy 4009, Restrictions on Employees Receiving Gratuities.
On the Grievance Procedure (Policy 4013) the board approved a motion to rescind the policy after discussion and a motion by Schuller to rescind was seconded by Landreth; the motion carried. The board considered Locker Room Supervision (Policy 4062); a motion by Schuller to table that policy failed for lack of a second and the board then proceeded with the recommendation from the Policy Committee and accepted the revisions.
Several academic and activity policies were also addressed. The board accepted recommended revisions to Early Graduation (Policy 5066) but agreed to retain language in the second paragraph under “Requirements for Application.” It approved revisions to Class Rank (Policy 6008) after a motion to retain the district’s original language failed for lack of a second. The board accepted revisions to Activity Trips (Policy 6029).
Some items received preliminary consideration only: Compulsory Attendance (Policy 5001) was presented as a first reading with discussion and no final action; Policy 2006 (Complaint Procedure) had a second reading with discussion but no action taken.
