Dickenson County schools report $2.45 million carryover, plan August FY27 budget amendment

Miss Lacey Edwards, presenting the district's fiscal year 2026 end-of-year summary, said operating revenue for FY26 was $31,779,592.09 and carryover from FY25 was $2,609,843.75, for total FY26 revenue of $34,389,435.84. She reported total expenditures of $31,939,312.52 (including post payroll adjustments) and an ending carryover of $2,450,001.23.
Edwards listed smaller restricted balances that will remain designated: GED testing funds, $2,286.04; textbook funds, $20,201.56; the Dolly Parton Imagination Library fund, $46,890.11; a GRAMA CTE equipment grant, $15,000; a RAFa/solar go-kart grant, $2,500; and a Ballad Health reset rooms grant, $13,500. She said the operating/capital project fund balance of roughly $2,000,001 will be earmarked for campus capital projects.
"These updated figures will be included in the budget amendment that we hope to present in August," Edwards said, noting the division has received updated calculation tools and final budget details from the Virginia Department of Education and will adjust required local-match totals, salary totals and line items accordingly.
Hailey Robinson, division superintendent, clarified that the roughly $2 million balance is earmarked for capital work such as turf replacement, tennis-court repairs and track work and thanked the county administrator and supervisors for permitting the carryover. Robinson said she will coordinate with the county on construction timing and with law enforcement about added support for the start of school if needed.
The board had no further questions and received the report for inclusion in the August budget amendment.
