Cowlitz County clears surplus list but keeps 1975 Expo Center water truck

Cowlitz County’s Board of Commissioners approved a public-notice surplus list that includes roughly 27 pieces of equipment and five properties, but the board agreed to remove a 1975 Ford water truck at the request of the Expo Center staff.
Savannah Clement, Public Works, told commissioners the list complies with state law and county purchasing policy and that vehicles and equipment will be auctioned while properties are marketed by a real-estate agent. "There's about 27 pieces of equipment on this list and then 5 pieces of property," she said, and noted the Expo Center asked to keep a converted 1975 water truck that a local rodeo board hopes to repair.
Commissioners asked about mileage and condition for several trucks. One vehicle on the presentation showed as a 1995 Ford F350 with about 46,000 miles; staff said some items may not be economical to repair and confirmed the legally published notice was correct. After clarifying the 1975 truck should be removed from the surplus list, the board moved and approved the surplus list minus the 1975 water truck by voice vote.
No public comments were submitted during the hearing. The county will proceed to auction or market the remaining items following its published surplus procedure.
