County to consider $34,500 in Title III funds; sheriff seeks drones and rescue gear

County finance staff told commissioners on Monday that about $34,500 in federal Title III (federal forest-related) funds are available for award and that four agencies have applied.
"We have approximately $34,500 to award, and we've had applications from four agencies for those dollars," Finance Director Sean Roway said.
Roway listed requests including Fire District 6 ($10,000) and Fire District 3 ($10,000) and said the sheriff's office submitted a request that includes purchase of two drones and specialized rescue equipment; Fire District 7 requested roughly $11,002. "We had fire 6 at $10,000, fire 3 at $10,000... and then Kallotskamania, Fire District Number 7 requesting $11,002," Roway said.
Troy Brightbill of the sheriff's office confirmed the department requested two drones and associated rescue tools but said they could reduce the request to one drone if needed. "We have a request in for two drones and some other specialized rescue equipment that's used with those drones," Brightbill said.
Applicants have been invited to the 09:45 public hearing so commissioners can question them before final awards are recommended.
No final award decisions were made during the agenda-review meeting.
