Britton-Hecla board adopts two firearms-related policy revisions, tables student code of conduct
Summary

The Britton-Hecla School District board accepted committee-recommended revisions to two policies addressing firearms and weapons in schools.
Motion by Landreth, second by Hawkinson carried to accept revisions to Policy 5035.1 (Firearms and Weapons); the board discussed the committee recommendations and approved them unanimously. Following that, motion by Landreth, second by Grupe carried to accept revisions to Policy 3038 (Possession of Firearms by District Patrons), which the board also approved with no dissenting votes recorded in the minutes.
Separately, the Student Code of Conduct was not approved; motion by Hawkinson, second by Erickson to table the Student Code of Conduct passed unanimously so the board can undertake further review. Policy 4028 (Substitute Pay) was likewise tabled on a motion by Zuehlke, second by Landreth.
The minutes note that policy language is available on the district website and in the business office for review. A correction to the December minutes recorded by the business manager notes that Schuller had voted nay on Policy 5001 in December; the board approved the December minutes as part of the business manager report at this meeting.
