Principals report fall enrollment and activities; superintendent flags funding and server needs

At the Sept. 11 meeting, Principals James and Richter provided routine school updates. They reported tentative fall enrollment figures, outlined homecoming plans for Sept. 30–Oct. 4 (including a 1:00 p.m. parade, 1:45 p.m. early dismissal and a 3:00 p.m. football game on Friday), noted that 40 students are taking dual-credit classes, and said preschool screening is scheduled for Sept. 27. The marching band plans to attend Gypsy Days and Groton homecoming, and the summer reading challenge was rewarded with a pizza party.
Superintendent Benson reported on long-term substitute pay and said the board should appoint a delegate to the Association of School Boards of South Dakota (ASBSD). Benson also raised potential effects of Initiated Measure 28 on education funding and noted a need for a new server to support library print materials and services.
