The Britton-Hecla School District 45-4 Board of Education approved a set of routine financial and personnel actions at its Sept. 11, 2024, meeting. President Troy Knecht called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the board approved the meeting agenda after adding an item about an ATM in the arena lobby.
The board heard the business manager’s FY24 annual financial report and was told the district complied with general fund cash-balance restrictions and met the baseline for average teacher compensation. After that presentation, a motion by Hawkinson, seconded by Erickson, to approve the Aug. 12 meeting minutes, August financial cash reports and payment of bills passed with the board voting unanimously as recorded in the minutes.
On the consent agenda, a motion by Zuehlke, seconded by Landreth, approved acceptance of the 2023–24 Annual Report submitted to the South Dakota Department of Education and working agreements for junior-high volleyball coaches Emma Bennett and Claire Bremmon at $1,800 each; the minutes record all voting in favor.
The board voted to deny open-enrollment applicants numbered 11 and 12 on a motion by Angela Grupe, seconded by Hawkinson; the minutes state the motion carried with all members voting aye. Later the board approved a working agreement offering Angela Grupe $3,375 for an assistant varsity volleyball coach position. The minutes list Erickson, Hawkinson, Landreth, Schuller and Zuehlke as voting yes on that motion, and record Grupe as recusing herself from the vote; the minutes do not specify President Knecht’s vote for that item.
