Lamar County board unanimously awards $892,377 Chromebook contract to Milliard Tek

The Lamar County School District Board of Education voted unanimously on June 26 to award a contract for 2,300 student Chromebooks to Milliard Tek LLC for a total of $892,377.00.

District technology director Ross Randall recommended awarding bid RA 26-112 to Milliard Tek after a reverse auction and vendor review. Randall's memo to the board said the lowest bidder submitted an incomplete price and another bidder proposed devices that did not meet the prebid specification; Milliard Tek provided the lowest complete, compliant quote, the memo says.

The Milliard Tek quote in meeting attachments lists the unit configuration, three-year warranty with accidental damage protection and a “white-glove” integration service that includes domain enrollment, asset tagging and reboxing. The district attachment lists Milliard Tek’s total as $892,377.00.

The board record also includes an Aztek Computers quote that shows a lower per-device price ($293.48) but a higher subtotal/total of $1,037,944.00 for comparable devices and services; district staff told the board that Aztek’s submission to the reverse auction either omitted required pricing elements or did not meet specifications and therefore was not accepted as the low responsive bid.

The motion to award the contract passed 5–0. The board approved the motion with Jordan Carlisle, Shae Farmer, Jennie Hensarling, Lance LeFan and Jared Slade recorded as voting "yea." The district will proceed with issuing a purchase order consistent with the quoted terms and vendor-provided timelines.
