The Post Falls School District No. 273 Board of Trustees unanimously approved an amended fiscal year 2025 budget and adopted the fiscal year 2026 budget at its June 9 regular meeting.
Chief Financial Officer Josh Gittel presented the budgets before the board. Trustee Wagner moved to adopt the amended FY2025 budget, seconded by Trustee Rodriguez; the motion passed with a unanimous aye vote. Trustee Dawson moved to adopt the FY2026 budget, seconded by Trustee Wagner; that motion also passed unanimously.
The board took several related procurement actions on motions that passed by unanimous votes. The board approved a liability-waiver for the University of Idaho’s Eat Smart Idaho summer nutrition program, allowing University students to provide nutrition education and outdoor activities during the district’s summer lunch program (motion by Trustee Wagner, seconded by Trustee Dawson). The board voted to roll the current dairy contract with Terry’s Dairy and the produce contract with Spokane Produce forward for the 2025–2026 school year (motions by Trustees Creighton and Dawson, respectively). On behalf of the NI Region 1 Coop, the board authorized awarding grocery, frozen, refrigerated and staple food supplies to Gold Star Foods and rolling the food-service supplies and paper products contract with Insight Distributing forward for 2025–2026 (motions by Trustee Wagner and Trustee Dawson). All motions recorded a unanimous aye vote.
The trustees also approved a resolution to continue the district’s membership in the Region 1 Coop for 2025–2026 (motion by Trustee Creighton, seconded by Trustee Rodriguez), again passing unanimously.
Gittel also told the board the district has a closing call the next day to finalize a bond refinance that, based on preliminary numbers, is expected to save taxpayers about $805,000 over the next 10 years. "We will be saving our taxpayers about $805K over the next 10 years," Gittel said.
The meeting record shows no dissenting votes; five board members were present for the actions: Chair Uhrig, Vice Chair Rodriguez, Trustee Wagner, Trustee Creighton and Trustee Dawson. Several items presented for first reading—policy 708 (Visitors to Schools) and revised transportation-related policies—were informational and will return for later votes as required by board procedure.
The board adjourned at 6:36 p.m.
