Chief Financial Officer Josh Gittel told the Post Falls School District board that the February foundation payment was approximately $1.1 million lower than expected because the district’s support units came in four units below the projection. He said interest income is currently helping offset some pressure but cautioned the district needs to prepare for declining enrollment and may need to replace certified staff who leave or retire.
Gittel outlined the district’s budget timeline and said staff will prepare two budget scenarios because a May 20 levy election requires the budget to be posted in the newspaper by the end of May. The board was reminded that the Annual Budget Prioritization meeting is scheduled for April 15, 8–10 a.m. in the Post Falls High School commons; trustees were asked to notify Clerk Kerri Zeller if they plan to attend so a quorum notice can be posted.
Gittel also announced staffing departures in the business office: the district’s controller and payroll specialist have accepted positions outside the district and openings will be filled in the coming weeks.
