Roberts pursues CDBG funding for newly gifted community center; city arranges third-party review of park bathrooms

Mayor Robert (BJ) Berlin told the council the city took possession of the Roberts Community Center on Jan. 1, 2025 and provided council members with a proposed rental agreement for their review. Altura representatives Rick Miller and Siona Johnson explained that Altura will help the city prepare a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application for $245,000 to fund HVAC work, energy-efficiency upgrades, ADA accessibility improvements, bathrooms, exterior repairs and keyless entry.
Altura said it will meet with the city clerk for a tour and will assist with the application, which is due March 14, 2025. The council discussed priorities for improvements and kitchen-use policies tied to safety and cleaning.
Separately, council members and consultants reported ongoing problems with plumbing in the new bathrooms at Mustang Park. City staff and Mountain West Precast disagree about the cause; the city arranged for an independent plumbing contractor to inspect and recommend repairs.
