Chegan said Shaker Heights pilot data identified fewer than 400 qualifying calls out of 37,000 and recommended monitoring how other communities sustain the program before local adoption. The committee voted to remove the item from the agenda pending stability of funding.
On traffic enforcement, Police Chief Keith Tarase reported a speed‑trailer deployment on Bennett Road that recorded a top speed of 80 mph on May 27 at 5:45 a.m. He said officers will concentrate enforcement in the area, particularly during 11 a.m.–6 p.m. peak enforcement windows.
Chief Chegan said the transition from Strongsville dispatch to Chagrin Valley dispatch has proceeded without operational problems; ongoing inter‑city coordination and subcommittees are addressing procedures and planned relocation logistics for the dispatch facility later this year.
Councilmember Matt Coleman asked members to review Chapter 862 (Solicitors, Peddlers and Canvassers) as warm weather brings more door‑to‑door activity; Chief Tarase noted canvassers sometimes ignore the do‑not‑knock registry.
Each of these items was removed from the Safety Committee agenda after the presentations and brief discussion, and staff will track outcomes and report back as needed.
