Pratt approves KDOT funding, plans to combine two street projects to improve bidding and reach $800,000 in assistance

Pratt’s public works director, Russ Rambat, told the commission that bids for a mill and overlay on West 54 (Jackson to Mound) came back higher than the engineer’s estimate and that city staff recently secured approval for a separate mill and overlay on South Main (Santa Fe to the south city limits). Rambat said combining the two projects would likely increase KDOT funding to around $800,000 and produce better value for mobilization and bidding.
"If we are able to combine the 2, I think it'll get us closer to what we're hoping for on project funding," Rambat said, noting combined bids should reduce unit mobilization costs and offer a larger window for completion. The commission moved, seconded and approved accepting the KDOT funding and moving forward with the combined approach.
Rambat said the funding would be available by July of the following year and that preliminary engineering agreements will follow, with staff intending to combine the projects and let bids at the same time.
