Roberts council approves minutes and bills, hears updates on water, wastewater and Mustang Park

Mayor Robert (BJ) Berlin opened the Roberts City Council meeting on Oct. 8, 2024, led an opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, and guided the council through routine business and departmental updates.
The council approved the Sept. 10, 2024 meeting and hearing minutes after a motion from Councilmember Benjamin Poston and a second from Shauna Lounsbury. Council later approved payment of the city’s bills following a motion from James Zillinger and a roll-call vote that recorded Poston, Lounsbury, Edidt Sanchez and Zillinger as voting "aye."
The meeting’s primary operational updates focused on water, wastewater and park improvements. Jaden Jackson of Keller Associates said the first five chapters of the city’s water facility planning study are complete and "waiting review." Jackson also reported the wastewater project will be advertised for 30 days to satisfy Environmental Protection Agency requirements and that the bid opening is scheduled for Nov. 8, 2024.
Jackson reported that electrical work at the Mustang Park building passed inspection and will be energized once Rocky Mountain Power installs a meter. Knife River has poured concrete at the site and the asphalt for the basketball court is complete. Taci Stoddard of Altura presented bids for surfacing and asked the council whether to build a single half basketball court or to add two pickleball courts; the council asked Stoddard to collect additional bids and to explore security-camera options. Lines and surfacing work are planned to be finished in spring because winter is approaching.
Julie Garcia reported on library activities, saying story time has resumed on Wednesdays at 1:15 p.m., Family Reading Night is scheduled for Nov. 13 at 6 p.m., Reading with Santa will be Dec. 7 at 11:00 a.m., and a tentative Lego Club would meet twice monthly for ages 7 and up. Garcia said she will apply for a $1,000 "Welcoming Library" grant to purchase books for Spanish readers.
On public-works matters, Mayor Berlin said the Roberts name is being repainted on the city’s water tower and described a materials exchange with H&K Construction: in return for water the city received 20 dump-truck loads of pavement millings to be used to pave the Mustang Park parking lot. The fall-cleanup dumpster will be available to paying utility customers for two weeks beginning Oct. 15. Other maintenance items reported included parking striping, winterizing sprinkler systems, preparing the snow plow, flushing a sewer trunk line and an upcoming water tank cleanout. The Idaho Department of Transportation resurfaced Highway 48, he said.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn by Edidt Sanchez, seconded by Benjamin Poston, which passed by voice vote.
