Roberts City Council adopts $10.77 million budget, authorizes general tax levy

The Roberts City Council on Aug. 27 adopted Ordinance No. 2024-569, the city’s annual appropriation ordinance for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2024, approving total appropriations of $10,766,876 and authorizing a general tax levy on taxable property within the city.
Mayor Robert (BJ) Berlin read the ordinance in full after the council voted to suspend additional readings. Councilmember Ben Poston moved to suspend further readings; Councilmember Edidt Sanchez seconded and the suspension passed by voice vote ('all ayes'), allowing the ordinance to be read once in full.
The ordinance lists proposed expenditures by object and purpose, including General & Administrative costs, the library, parks and recreation, streets and lighting, water/sewer/sanitation and the Mustang Events Center, and specifies a total proposed appropriation of $10,766,876. Estimated revenues enumerated in the ordinance include property tax ($127,720), other local receipts, state revenue sharing, licenses and permits, interest, water/sewer/sanitation fees, grants and a Mustang Events Center line item shown at $9,990,000; total estimated revenues match the proposed appropriations at $10,766,876.
Section 3 of the ordinance authorizes a general tax levy 'in amount allowed by law' for the city’s general purposes for the fiscal year. Section 4 repeals ordinances in conflict, and Section 5 states the ordinance takes effect upon passage, approval and publication in the Jefferson Star, the city’s official newspaper.
Councilmember Edidt Sanchez moved to adopt Ordinance No. 2024-569 for the 2024–2025 budget year; Councilmember James Zillinger seconded. The clerk conducted a roll-call vote: Ben (Benjamin) Poston — aye; Shauna Lounsbury — absent; Edidt Sanchez — aye; James Zillinger — aye. The motion passed.
After the vote the council moved to adjourn. Ben Poston moved to adjourn, Edidt Sanchez seconded, and members voted 'all ayes.' The meeting was declared adjourned.
