Post Falls trustees hire Mullan Trail principal, award major facility bids and approve meal-price increase

The Post Falls School District No. 273 Board of Trustees at a May 12 regular meeting approved several personnel and facilities actions and unanimously passed a small meal-price increase and an insurance-waiver request.
Superintendent Dena Naccarato recommended Trayce Hemenway be hired as principal of Mullan Trail Elementary for the 2025–2026 school year; Trustee Rodriguez moved and Trustee Dawson seconded the motion, which passed with a unanimous aye vote. The Board recorded approval of the hire without further discussion.
Chief Financial Officer Josh Gittel presented recommendations for several Post Falls High School and Post Falls Middle School capital bids after the district received no responses through Public Purchase. The Board approved awarding the new flooring contract to Fairway Floors, HVAC system work to ACI Northwest, Inc., and HVAC controls contracts to Control Solutions Northwest, Inc. Trustee Dawson moved to approve the recommended vendors, Trustee Wagner seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Gittel also recommended a minimum $0.10 per-meal increase for the 2025–2026 school year; he noted the change will not affect prices for free or reduced-price meals. Trustee Creighton moved to approve the increase, Trustee Dawson seconded, and the motion passed with a unanimous aye vote.
Following public comment from Karen Yother of the Community Library Network on agenda item 12.4, the Board approved a liability-insurance waiver for the Network. Trustee Rodriguez moved, Trustee Wagner seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Gittel said he will prepare an amended FY2025 budget for the June meeting and is developing FY2026 scenarios that depend on the upcoming levy outcome. He reported bond counsel advised moving forward with a refinance that could save about $600,000 based on current rates. The district also received an additional $2.4 million in facility modernization funds, bringing the total to $25.4 million; those funds must be used for capital projects with a minimum useful life of seven years and are intended to cover a 10-year period.
