Post Falls district flags possible Mullan Trail closure if enrollment keeps falling

Superintendent Dena Naccarato told the Post Falls School District board that continued enrollment declines at Mullan Trail could force the district to decide whether the school is feasible to keep open, citing the building’s age and high maintenance costs.
"It’s up slightly to 92.78%, not 95% as previously reported by Idaho Ed News," Naccarato said when reporting average daily attendance for the district. She warned that if Mullan Trail’s enrollment continues to fall, maintenance and operating costs for the older facility may outweigh the benefits of keeping it open.
Naccarato told the board the district will check enrollment again after Labor Day and will report back in September so trustees can make an informed decision. She also noted the district is mid-hiring for an Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Programs and will call a special meeting to approve a hire if needed.
The meeting record did not include enrollment figures for Mullan Trail or a timetable for any formal action beyond the post–Labor Day review; trustees did not vote on closure or take binding action at this meeting.
