Superintendent Dena Naccarato reported to the Post Falls School District No. 273 board on Feb. 10 that student attendance improved 0.59% in January compared with the same month last year, while substitute staffing increased in raw counts and the district experienced coverage shortages.
Naccarato said the district used 448 teacher substitutes this year compared with 326 last year, and used 169 paraprofessional substitutes compared with 71 the prior year. She said the district experienced a substitute shortage in January and was able to cover about 86% of teacher and paraprofessional absences.
Assistant Superintendent Anna Wilson reviewed January Istation data for elementary schools and Assistant Superintendent Trina Caudle reviewed graduation rates for Post Falls High School and New Vision High School.
Naccarato also shared results of the district’s 4-day school week survey and presented proposed changes to the 2025–26 calendar: remove three "green Fridays" that follow Monday holidays, require attendance for the full second week of June, and add five minutes to the end of the school day at Post Falls High School and New Vision High School to meet required instructional hours. The proposed calendar would reduce contracted teacher days by three while maintaining the same rate of pay. The board agreed to a spring tour of New Vision High School scheduled for Thursday, May 1, and staff reminded trustees that the annual budget meeting is April 15, 8–10 a.m. in the Post Falls High School commons.
Chief Financial Officer Josh Gittel separately reported that the district’s ESSER audit returned without findings and reiterated facility-fund restrictions and timing. The meeting included brief presentations by Amber Poelstra Steele about the PFEA building report and by Jordan Munson and Treaty Rock students about a Safety Patrol program at Treaty Rock Elementary.
The board recessed into an executive session later in the meeting under Idaho Code 74-206(1)(b) to discuss an employee and a student and adjourned at 6:38 p.m.
