Pratt council approves police radios, transformer purchase and a $72,000 curb/sidewalk ADA contract

The Pratt City Council approved three procurement items at its Sept. 2 meeting: replacement handheld radios for police, a transformer replacement for a local business, and a curb/sidewalk/ADA ramp contract.

Police Chief Oller told the council the department’s handheld Kenwood NX‑3200 radios (12–15 years old) have failing volume controls and parts are no longer available. After comparing two quotes, staff recommended Buckland Communications at $18,962 for 14 Kenwood NX‑3300 handheld radios (with AES encryption keys required for NCIC/KBI compliance) and associated batteries. Council moved and approved the purchase; staff said Buckland could deliver in fewer than 30 days and the city has in‑house programming capacity.

On a separate request, staff solicited bids to replace a failed seal on a transformer serving Dylan’s. After receiving three bids, council approved purchase of a 500 KVA transformer from Sunbelt Solomon for $25,560.50 (including tax); city staff said Dylan’s will repay the city for the work.

Public works recommended awarding the 2025 curb, sidewalk and ADA ramp project to Orozco Concrete for $72,000 (one responsive bid). The scope included approximately 6,200 square feet of sidewalk, new ADA ramps and more than 1,000 linear feet of curb; staff said work would be funded in part by the city’s 0.25¢ street sales tax and should be complete by Dec. 31, 2025.

Each procurement was moved and approved by council during the meeting.
