Workshop: Two Rivers Park tree thinning, shared stewardship and hazardous-fuels reduction presented to Priest River council

Mayor Jeff Connolly opened a workshop at 7:08 p.m. Sept. 3 to hear presentations on proposed tree thinning and hazardous fuels reduction at Two Rivers Park.
Presenters included Elynn Reierson of Inland Forest Management, Inc., and Brittany Morlin with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. They outlined roles the Shared Stewardship Group and partner organizations could play, including technical and financial assistance, creation of a forest management plan, wildlife habitat enhancement measures, hazardous-fuels treatments around parkland and recommendations for signage, outreach and education.
PRURA Chairman Jim Martin and Bob Howard of Bonner County EMS attended the discussion and participated in question-and-answer exchanges with the presenters and council members. The workshop was informational; the minutes record discussion but no formal motions or votes related to the Two Rivers Park workshop during the special meeting.
The council had previously moved the workshop later in the agenda; staff and presenters discussed possible funding and technical-support avenues. Any implementation of fuels treatments or tree-thinning work would require further planning, potential external approvals and funding commitments before on-the-ground work could begin. The meeting adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
