Orange Selectboard accepts $12,500 AARP grant, adopts governance and roads standards and approves town contracts

The Town of Orange Selectboard at its May 26 meeting voted to accept a $12,500 AARP grant for improvements to the town recreation field, contingent on receipt of an updated lease agreement with the State. The board also approved several routine contracts and governance updates.
The AARP grant was presented for acceptance by the Selectboard; the board approved the grant contingent on an updated state lease that the town must provide before grant funds are finalized. The motion to accept the grant was made by Selectboard member Carmella Tucker and seconded by Selectboard member Kristin Paya; the motion carried unanimously.
Board members also approved a three-year mowing contract with contractor Tylan Johnson, including an addendum for additional work outside the scope of regular mowing. Selectboard member Kristin Paya moved the contract approval, which was seconded by Carmella Tucker and carried unanimously. The board authorized the Selectboard Chair to sign the agreement.
The board authorized payment of $3,500 under a contract with the Washington Volunteer Fire Department and authorized the Chair to sign the contract. That motion was made by Carmella Tucker and seconded by Chair Steve Simpson and carried unanimously.
On governance and oversight, the Selectboard reviewed and approved the annual Internal Controls Checklist and authorized the Chair to sign the checklist on the board’s behalf. The board also reviewed an updated version of Selectboard Rules and Procedures and adopted the May 26, 2026 version by unanimous vote.
The board adopted updated Roads and Bridges Standards after review; Road Foreman Matt Wadsworth had previously reviewed the standards and provided input to the board. Wadsworth also reported on recent roadwork and planning during the road foreman update (completion of paving on Tucker Road and planning for Reservoir Road and a culvert grant application for 2027).
The board approved payroll warrants for May 16 and May 23, 2026, and an accounts payable warrant dated May 22, 2026. The meeting adjourned at 8:14 p.m.; the Selectboard’s next meeting is scheduled for June 8, 2026.
