Hunter council approves minutes and bills, schedules Santa visit; dog ordinance set for December

Later, council member Chad Hauser moved to pay the bills as presented; Ashley Schneider seconded and the motion carried. City Treasurer Serrina Schneider reported that the fiscal year end is approaching and the budget is at roughly 50% of planned expenditures. The council also received a water-system update that recorded a loss of 44,370 gallons; the record states the water tower will be inspected and, because it is too late in the season to flush, the clerk will contact Mitchell County Rural Water #2 to arrange work in the spring.
Guest Ruth Roberts told the council she owns the properties that belonged to Gjertrud Aney and said she "will be taking all of it to the landfill," indicating an intent to tear down structures and remove debris. The council did not record any formal action on that statement during the meeting.
The council noted that the city attorney reviewed the draft dog ordinance and indicated it "looked good." Council members agreed to place the ordinance on the agenda for the December meeting for formal approval. Officials also reviewed the procedure for outdoor burning: residents should call the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, which will ask questions and contact the local fire chief; the transcript notes that a burn ban in Mitchell County applies to Lincoln County operations when the department operates in both counties and that there is currently no burning in Mitchell County.
Council member Joyce Schneider moved to schedule a Santa visit on Dec. 21 at 10 a.m.; the motion passed and members noted that Christmas decorations will be put up after Thanksgiving. Council member Chad Hauser offered to assist with related tasks and asked about the possibility of paving certain exempt tracks; Mayor Brad Nitsch said he would check on that question.
The council recorded that the community room report was not received for the month. The city website was noted to be live and under ongoing update. The meeting adjourned after a motion by Ashley Schneider and a second by Joyce Schneider.
