Matt Swenson appeared before the Hoyt City Council on Sept. 3 to request city assistance repairing a parking lot in front of his businesses at 116 W Fourth. Swenson told the council the overall repair at the site is estimated at $60,000 and asked the city to pay $24,500 for the area he said falls inside a city easement.
Council members discussed whether the area is a city street or other public property and agreed they need to confirm the right-of-way boundaries shown on the Jackson County parcel map before making any commitment. Council member Joe Romans said he would follow up with Jackson County Department of Commerce about potential grant funding for the work, and he will coordinate with city personnel to clarify property lines.
No formal motion to fund or schedule repair work was taken during the meeting. Council members asked staff and the attorney to research the easement and return with more information at a future meeting.
