County awards Justice Center roof contract to Tri State Construction; alternates and 20-year warranty noted

The Coffee County Board of Commissioners voted March 5 to award the Justice Center reroofing contract to Tri State Construction, approving the recommended alternates and moving forward with contract finalization.
Staff explained they received three bids and vetted insurance and licensing. The project includes a base reroof and three alternates: retrofit roof drains, replace or upgrade roof-access ladders for safety, and install new hatch guards. Staff said two bidders were higher because of travel and lodging costs and recommended the lowest responsive bid. The consulting engineer and staff recommended a 10% contingency; staff also said the project remains within the board's allocated budget.
Miss Reed moved to accept Tri State Construction's bid including alternates; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. Staff said manufacturers will back the installed product and that manufacturer oversight will support a 20-year warranty regardless of contractor chosen. Commissioners asked staff to finalize contract scheduling and return with start dates; staff indicated construction could begin in spring (April–May timeframe) pending final contracting.
