Hoyt council reviews sidewalk engineering report as grant decision nears

Todd Anderson of SMH Consultants presented preliminary engineering for a proposed sidewalk project and outlined possible scope options, including extending the sidewalk to the community building on Fifth Street and further west on Fourth Street.
Anderson told the council that preliminary cost estimates were set intentionally high to allow flexibility; he said the scope can be adjusted as the project advances and that the council should expect notice whether the grant application is awarded in January.
Council members expressed concern about cost but acknowledged the preliminary nature of the estimates. No formal authorization or contract award was made at the Dec. 3 meeting; council discussion centered on scope and next steps if the grant is awarded.
