Mayor breaks tie; council approves consent calendar, OKs commercial dumpster opt-in and refers variance back to planning

Mayor Wanda Irish called the Harrison City Council to order and presided over a meeting that included several contested votes.
Councilmember Josephine Prophet moved to approve the consent calendar, which included monthly bills and minutes, with Councilmember Will Butler seconding. The roll call among councilmembers split 3–3 (Will Butler AYE; Josephine Prophet AYE; Joe Cornell NAY; John Gray NAY; Debbie Lockhart AYE; Charlie Shutt NAY). The council also addressed a land-use matter when the applicant for the Hough variance presented a request. Councilmember Joe Cornell moved to have the Planning and Zoning Commission re-evaluate the Hough Variance Application; Councilmember John Gray seconded. The motion passed with only Councilmember Will Butler recording a NAY.
